Located on the island of Sicily, in the province of Catania, Etna was born about 600,000 years ago. Today, the volcanic mountain rises to 3,357 meters, it is classified as a shield volcano, topped by a stratovolcano. This mountain is visible from land and sea, crossing the histories of ancient Mediterranean civilizations. The highest volcano in Europe, it is also one of the most active in the world. For nature lovers, its valley and its ascent is a real paradise for hikers. On its flanks, hundreds of extinct craters can be seen as well as a caldera called Valle del Bove. But Etna can also be appreciated in winter! With a ski resort on its southern side and another on the northern side, the volcano can be skied, snowboarded or sledged down from January to March. This volcano in constant activity has no less than 300 lateral cones and 250 caves of lava tunnels, eruptive fractures and flow channels. Inscribed in 2013 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Etna attracts crowds of visitors with its explosive activity.
